Address: 80 Columbus Circle Zipcode: 10023 Phone Number: 212805.8881 Website: http://www.mandarinoriental.com In a city with genius on almost every corner, restaurants catering to tourists don’t hold much appeal. But the new Mandarin Oriental is no ordinary hotel, and it’s topped by Asiate, one of the most exciting restaurants to open here in a long time. The fabulous view from 35 floors up will catch your attention, but everything takes a back seat to the food at Asiate. Star chef Nori Sugie takes fusion to a new level with his sexy, unexpected and deliciously daring French-Japanese menu. In a city that is rarely shocked, the Caesar salad soup and the pressed suckling pig made serious waves when Asiate first opened. It’s hard to get a reservation here, and the dinner crowd is a mixture of glitterati, expense-account suits, the occasional celebrity and splurging locals. Dinner here will set you back a couple bucks, so eat slowly and savor the experience.
