Although it’s nestled in a sleepy province between Glendale and Pasadena, Casa Bianca Pizza Pie’s scene is always wide awake. In fact, the small waiting area can never contain the crowd, so it spills out to the street, underneath the old-fashioned neon sign. Why would beach bums, mountain dwellers and busy visitors endure L.A.’s legendary traffic to get to little Casa Bianca? There’s one reason, and you guessed it – this pizza is not to be believed. With an ultra-thin crust that is in some parts crispy and in other parts chewy, the pie gets off to a good start. Then they add the perfect sauce, high-quality cheese and fennel-scented, house-made sausage or caramelized garlic. Or maybe it’s fried eggplant on top, which gets you a virtual hand-held eggplant parmesan, that is so beloved. The pizza is even cut cutely; you end up with squares and triangles. Order salad or pasta if you must, but it’s all beside the point. Battle the wait and have it there, or do as many an Angeleno has done: Get it to go and pretend you’re on your way to eat it somewhere. Your Casa Bianca pizza pie will probably be gobbled up in the car before you hit your first freeway onramp.
