Address: 241 W Broadway Zipcode: 10013 Phone Number: +1 212 226 6252 Website: http://www.cerclerougeresto.com Manhattan hardly needs another French bistro, but Cercle Rouge, the latest venture in restaurateur Georges Forgeois’s group of Frenchified restaurants, has decided to make a go for it anyway – to mixed results. The bistro décor is authentic enough – aged mirrors, plush banquettes and a bar lined with gleaming bottles of red – but the overpriced menu can be hit or miss. Your best bet is to go for the tried-and-true bistro favorites, including the perfectly charred steak frites, oysters and grilled scallops. The other offerings that take a more daring approach, such as the curried bok choy, can sometimes fall flat. Time will tell if Cercle Rouge becomes a success; its greatest hurdle will be in proving to be a worthwhile alternative to the area’s other popular bistros, including Balthazar and Odeon. What Cercle Rouge has going for it is its location in Tribeca, a neighborhood with a palpable buzz that keeps growing.
