Ask the waiter to bring you a crisp Moroccan Casa Blanca beer and Chef Adel Chagar’s fluffy, light-as-air couscous, which arrives heaped and steaming upon colorful plates. For entertainment you need only admire the young, mostly male staff or smart, multicultural diners. (Get the best seats by asking for one of the booths along the far wall.) Main courses cost $19 to $24; extras (small plates) offer a good value at $4 to $6. You’ll hardly notice the slightly inattentive service as you plow through the menu, and everything is cooked to order, so be patient. Intimate quarters may seem to make the wall’s striped color blocks close in on the hip guests in Chameau, but you’ll likely find the surrounding scene a draw to which you don’t mind getting close. After dinner, don’t leave empty-handed; Chameau packages its own harissa, marinated olives, eggplant dip, and other goodies you can take with you.
