The Dining Room at Kendall College offers you two things: a great food bargain and the opportunity to sample the work of students who may be tomorrow’s culinary superstars. Because this is not just a restaurant; it’s a classroom. Kendall College has trained some of the Midwest’s top chefs, and it continues to develop new talent. But don’t think this will be like your school cafeteria. The Dining Room is handsome, a cross between a high-end restaurant and an executive dining room. A long, black-granite bar reflects the soft light from Asian-influenced lamps. Two walls of windows offer an unobstructed view of the city’s skyline. And the food is sensational. For starters, consider the tea-smoked quail with summer greens or the smoked trout and sweet crab salad. Main course offerings might include red snapper with black chickpea and merguez ragout or Indian-spiced rack of lamb. Desserts are outstanding, too.
