Address: 8136 W 3rd St Zipcode: 90048 Phone Number: 323-651-4202 Website: http://www.doughboys.net Truly bizarre yet mouth-watering breakfast offerings at Doughboys include cream cheese-and-jam-filled French toast, pecan butterscotch pancakes, “dirty eggs” (pan-fried grits, shredded pork, caramelized onions), and something ominously referred to as The Monster. Half bakery, half ultra-high-quality diner (the coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice, both epic in size, will convince you), Doughboys fills you up for the rest of the day and offers to go home with you. All of the baked-daily bread used in the entrees can be purchased in bulk for later consumption, as can the muffins, scones, and focaccia. Located in the semi-trendy Crescent Heights area (look for the Paul Frank store – known for that creepy monkey cartoon – across the street, and Face Place beauty spa and The Knitters Studio nearby), it really does attract a celebrity crowd, but also lots of regular families with kids. Because breakfast is served all day, that’s what the place is known for, but the baguette sandwiches (try the pesto, buffalo mozzarella, and tomato) and plenty of salads keep people coming back. The soup is “heated to order” and doesn’t sit in a pot all day. Even the health-conscious food (tofu scramble, fruit and cottage cheese, flaxseed griddlecakes, homemade muesli, and much more) is prepared in obscenely large amounts.
