CROWDED. “Please remove your elbow from my ear” crowded. Take it as a testament to the popularity of this attractive tavern that no one ever gets mad or jumps ship while waiting for a table or booth. It’s to do with the beer. An anthology-sized menu proffers more than 200 Belgian ales and regional microbrews, some of which sound downright trippy (Delirium Tremens, anyone?). Bottles are served, but for many of the Belgian brews specially-designed glasses are suggested because they showcase the beer’s frothy cap and distinctive aroma. A Belgian-inspired food menu takes a back seat to the beer, but if you need something to sop up all those malted hops, try an order (for one or two) of the steamed mussels (in white wine or ale) and frites with garlic aioli. Tasty salads, sandwiches and entrees round out the selections.
