James R. Thompson Center

Intended to “reach the man on the street,” according its artist Jean Dubeffet, this sculpture will not fail to accomplish its mission for lack of foot traffic. Indeed, the busy James R. Thompson Center is always bustling with people. The monument itself incorporates a tree, a portal, a standing animal and an architectural element, and invites viewers to enter. The sculpture is one of only three in the United States by Dubuffet.
