Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Address: 5905 Wilshire Blvd Zipcode: 90036 Phone Number: +1 323 857 6000 Website: http://www.lacma.org The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (known locally as LACMA), like a fine meal, is best savored slowly to encourage proper digestion; the sprawling campus houses more than 150,000 works, too many to cover in one day. Plus, with constantly changing special exhibitions – ranging in focus from King Tut to Cézanne – as well as evening concerts and dance and film events, you’ll want to return again and again. If you need only a taste, visit after 5 p.m., when admission is free (you’ll have three hours to browse until closing at 8 p.m.). You can view art from around the world; seemingly endless photographs, paintings and sculptures from Europe, the Americas and Asia adorn every nook. Visitors range from retirees to college students to preschoolers; LACMA appeals to all ages, thanks in part to the Children’s Gallery, where precocious youngsters congregate to appreciate art. After all that cultural mind expansion, stick around to dine at the contemporary restaurant Pentimento, part of the prestigious Patina Group of eateries, or visit one of the LACMA gift shops, which offer plenty of ogle-worthy items at steep prices. Hey, at least you can always snag a few postcards on the cheap.
