Address: 316 Bowery Zipcode: 100112 Website: http://www.mannahatta.us Commanding the corner of Bleecker and Bowery, Mannahatta offers a taste of what this stretch of the Bowery is slowly becoming: gentrified. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – at least not in the case of this amiable restaurant-lounge. The sleek, ample space features low couches with soft throw pillows, flickering candles and a deep bar, behind which a trendy staff mixes stiff drinks. The crowd reflects the changing nabe, from flirty chicks enjoying a girls’ night out to cuddling couples and stylish grungsters knocking back a cocktail or two before heading to the nearby East Village to take in a show. Mannahatta’s global tapas fit the loungey mood. Try chicken and salmon skewers served with tart dipping sauces, seafood ceviche or patatas bravas (fried potato chunks with aioli mayonnaise); these small plates seem custom tailored to soak up the alcohol nicely and sustain you through the next round.
