The elegant Mark’s Restaurant fits the bill perfectly – except for the snooty part. Mark’s offers one of the more sophisticated French-Asian menus in the city, prepared by a team of classically trained chefs, and the interior is awash in elegance, with gleaming wood walls, columns rising grandly to the ceiling, and red-and-gold stuffed chairs. Yet the ambience is intimate, friendly and smart-casual. Executive chef Jean-Pierre Bagnato offers four menus, each of which shows off his multifaceted culinary background. The Equinox menu focuses on seasonal dishes; Mediterranee celebrates Southern French specialities; Fan of Asia features a unique Asian twist; and Modern Classics showcases traditional French cuisine. Bagnato’s true talents are revealed when his culinary influences meet on the plate, such as shrimp with zesty aioli or foie gras with date compote. Rivaling the cuisine is the top-notch wine list, presented by a master sommelier, no less.
