Classic New York doesn’t get much better than Old Town: dark, cozy booths, a tin ceiling, and a beer-fueled crowd of crusty regulars, frat guys, and hipsters in dark-rimmed glasses sidling up to the long bar. This Flatiron favorite has had its moments in the spotlight, perhaps most famously as the backdrop for the opening credits of the David Letterman show. Bars of this ilk generally aren’t known for their grub, but that’s not the case at Old Town, where the kitchen turns out juicy burgers, zingy buffalo wings and giant salads, all of which are sent up to the bar via dumbwaiter. Wash it all down with potent cocktail or a frothy beer or two – sampling your way through the stellar suds selection should keep you busy until the wee hours.
