Pastis has all the hallmarks of a Keith McNally restaurant: French bistro decor, reasonably priced brasserie cuisine, and a convivial, party-hearty energy. McNally has repeated his wildly successful formula across Manhattan, from Balthazar in SoHo to Schillers in the East Village, and his magic works just as well here in the Meatpacking District. Day or night, the massive space is packed with a healthy mix of people, from pre- and post-clubbing hipsters and romantic couples to noisy groups of coworkers. Trendy yet informal, Pastis has colorfully tiled floors, aged mirrors, a long bustling bar, and large windows overlooking the street. In the warm months, the crowd overflows onto the outdoor tables.
