Years ago, fans of kimonos, tea sets and fans had to trek up a set of stairs in a rather scrappy looking building in Chinatown to get their fix. Luckily, Pearl River Mart, the mecca of all things Asian, moved to fancier digs a few blocks uptown, allowing you to shop in a pretty, bright and sprawling emporium. Browse the staggering selection of clothes, books, screens, home furnishings, scores of porcelain and more Buddhas than you could ever need. Pearl River Mart’s selection is pretty darn good: Mandarin dresses, robes, tote bags and even baby clothes are all up for grabs. But fancier digs came at a cost—the prices went up slightly. Sure, you can get the same things on Ca-nal Street (in Chinatown proper) for less, but frankly, that’s far too much work and not nearly as convenient.
