Address: 59 West 44th Street Zipcode: 10036 For a memorable taste of New York history, head to the Algonquin Hotel’s Round Table, the famed 1920s-30s haunt of New York’s literary circle of Dorothy Parker and company. From the lofty pillars rising to a white ceiling with decorative moldings to the dark-wood walls and richly hued carpets, the Round Table evokes the glory days of a bygone era – as does the menu, inspired by famed owner Frank Case’s cookbook, Feeding the Lions. Take your taste buds on a gastronomic trip down memory lane and try out such classics as the spring chicken pot pie, roast duck stuffed with apples and oranges, and the juicy rib eye steak, which, the menu notes, was pronounced by none other than Joan Crawford to be “my favorite dish, good and rare.” The sumptuous, salon-style surroundings invite lingering around the table for a leisurely meal, just as the Algonquin literati used to do.
