Address: 840 S Fairfax Ave Zipcode: 90036 Phone Number: 323-936-7151 Website: http://www.tombergins.com Founded in 1936, Tom Bergin’s Irish pub was supposedly the model for the bar in Cheers, and you’ll swear after a few visits that everybody knows your name. The friendly waiters and bartenders will, at least. The Irish coffee is a must-drink. Double-brewed with coffee (not water), it packs a mean caffeine punch, and it’s topped with the thickest, richest cream this side of Ireland. Juicy burgers, tasty hot wings and surprisingly good salads make satisfying bar snacks or meals. Don’t expect to earn a shamrock with your name on it for a while (if ever), though. Hundreds cover the walls and ceiling, but the steps to earning one remain shrouded in mystery. Old, comfy booths, a long, dark oak bar and a corner jukebox (often playing U2, appropriately enough) greet you from the front entrance, but in back, Tom Bergin’s is a true Irish pub, serving fish ‘n’ chips, fresh Guinness and corned beef and cabbage. You could take a date, your friends or your parents here and feel completely at home. Baseball and football fans congregate on important game nights and mornings (Tom Bergin’s opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays). Pair a visit here with one to Molly Malone’s, a short walk north, for the only authentic pub-crawl in Los Angeles.
