Upscale, sleek, and with a waitstaff as young and dashing as the clientele, Woo Lae Oak is a prime example of the new face of Korean cuisine, where Japanese-style sashimi and potent fruity cocktails and martinis share the menu with the Bi Bim Bop (cold veggies over rice), and Dae Ji (grilled pork). You’ll still encounter the famed Korean penchant for spiciness in some of Woo Lae Oak’s offerings, but many of the dishes have been muted for the Western palate. Either way, it’s always fun to Korean-barbecue your meal. At Woo Lae Oak, you order from a varied menu – there’s everything from black tiger prawns and tuna loins to filet mignon and sliced beef tongue – and then cook it over the grills embedded in the tables.
